Covid-19 has led to more hate crimes in society. The “Covid-19 Hate Crimes Act” has not been passed, but it would help reports of hate crimes to be efficient by mitigating racial discriminatory language. Social workers believe in dignity & worth of person. #WKUsocialworkpolicy

@iannitello997 Keeping independence as much as possible in the elderly population is a good thing. Older adults can be upset if independence is being taken from them. As social workers, we can help to do this while also advocating and getting them services they need.

NASW states that social workers should prevent and intervene against abuse, neglect, and exploitation against the elderly in the Elder Justice Act. The elderly should be protected in their aging at all times and places. #wkusocialworkpolicy

@CaterCamryn1 I think kinship care is so important. There do need to be more policies on this however, because some kin cannot afford to help. Assistance on this topic could better benefit children in foster care. #wkusocialworkpolicy

All states require foster parents to go through training classes & background checks in order to foster children in their homes. This can ensure more safety for the kids who deserve a loving home. Social workers can help to educate them. #WKUsocialworkpolicy

Mental health issues such as suicide& depression have been worsening due to covid. Many people go without seeing family and friends, and some have extreme worry about illness. Social workers can be there to help people find ways to cope. #WKUsocialworkpolicy

@leticia_ofili It’s sad to me that people think suicidal thoughts can just be easily changed. Social workers are there to help people struggling by helping with educate others on stigmas of suicide and ways to be there for others with these issues.

Jeremy, I appreciate your desire to bring attention in this matter. I agree that social workers duty is to help people live safe lives. This bill can help to reduce unsafe usage of syringes, and that is very important.
