Very excited to share recent ๐น of our @LIGHTonTB work @MLW_Programme in ๐ฒ๐ผ. (Genius outtake! ๐idea credit to @JHG_LFC)
Overall question: how much #TB can be โฌ๏ธ at popn level by targeting men w/ community-based #TB active case finding strategies in ๐ฒ๐ผ?
What are we doing? ๐งต

Just back from a fantastic week with @LIGHTonTB colleagues at #LIGHTAbuja2024 discussing strategies for a gender-responsive approach to #EndTB. Many thanks to @ZankliC for hosting, to all who presented their work, and to everyone who worked behind the scenes to make it happen!
What a week! One word to summarise the 7th Global Forum on TB Vaccines: #Optimism. The prospect of imminent adolescent & adult TB vaccines gives the global TB community hope for a future without #TB. Sentiments also shared by Sir Jeremy Farrar, WHO Chief Scientist. #7GF#EndTB
Special mention to Juliette Unwin. Great to meet 2 years after Malawi visit. Really enjoyed the "Infectious disease modelling using Stan" tutorial. Very clearly presented. Super cool to see how it all connects ๐
Special shout to Charles Margossian & all #StanCon organisers

Okay, not to name drop but meeting Richard McElreath after reading his book & watching Youtube vidoes for past 2 years was wild. Statistical Rethinking was first Bayesian stats book I read. Also first intro to probabilistic programming. Transformed my view of statistics.ย

Richard gave the "Intro to Probabilistic Programming in Stan" tutorial at #StanCon. Nothing less. Jokes & memes as always. Complex material, clearly delivered for newbies to relate to. Spoke to him about my code. Bunch of others also let him know they're fans of his material

2/3) medium-term: lots of analyses ahah moments!
3/3) long-term: I guess depends how much work I put in going forward ๐ค (not looking back ๐ช๐พ)
Thank you #StanCon2024 team & sponsors for scholarship. Great to hear about cool work & developments in the community!
Stan Conference 2024 #StanCon2024 was unreal! Real people, great community!
Okay, tbh threw myself โ๏ธ deep end but paid off
1) short-term: spoke to Stan devt team & awesome Bayesian stats teachers (Bob Carpenter, Richard McElreath, Aki Vehtari & +) โฌ๏ธ motivation to learn

Earlier this week, @LIGHTonTB partners in ๐ฒ๐ผ engaged with MPs, Hon. Dr. @matthews_ngwale, (Chair of the Parliamentary Health Committee) and Hon. Kamlepo Kalua (Chair of the TB Caucus).

Hi. I have set up a GoFundMe to help cover costs of my work visa. While my university will reimburse me later, I need help to make my application.I promise to refund all donations

Any contribution or share with networks will be greatly appreciated!
The folks at @ISBA_events tell me my book Statistical Rethinking has won the 2024 DeGroot Prize for its contributions to "statistical inference, decision theory and statistical applications". This is huge honor especially given the previous winners, who have influenced me so much
Managing student/colleague confusion and failure is so important. I know this because I am managing my own all the time. We all fall down (from Lecture 18):
Fantastic PharmacoEconomics article by @Ewmoto, Eve Worrall & @lstmnews team, rethinking #TB morbidity quantification. Disability weights essential for TB DALY calculations but, with gaps in current approaches, this review asks "what are we weighting for?"

In our new short report in @JIDJournal, we estimate that half of all Mtb transmission occurs before individuals would be expected to access healthcare - and 80% of this transmission is attributable to subclinical disease.
