The Health Professions Council of South Africa has been accused of not taking adequate steps to protect children.

The concern for Women and Men against Child Abuse, is that despite being found guilty of sexually assaulting a 15 year old boy in 2011 and being sentenced to correctional supervision for 4 years; Dr Ian Venter, a dentist from George, was sentenced in 2018 to 3 years in prison for molesting a 13 year old in 2015 - he is still allowed to practice.
