Mpigi District Chairperson Peter Kawuki has mourned the late Tooro King, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, praising his legacy of culture, unity and development. Parliament will today hold a special sitting at 2pm to pay tribute to the late King.
Mpigi councillors have rejected a proposal to allocate district land for RDC, DISO and NIRA offices, citing inadequate consultation and unclear land records. The motion was withdrawn for further scrutiny, with leaders demanding a comprehensive review of district land holdings.
Mpigi District Chairperson Peter Kawuki met Ministry of Works and Transport officials to address urgent road and transport concerns, including highway repairs, safety measures, truck parking, pavement damage and billboard revenue. Officials pledged follow-up.
The 2nd District Council Sitting of the 1st Session of the Mpigi District Local Council is currently underway in the Council Chambers at the Mpigi District Local Government Headquarters.

Residents of Tirobogo and Kasoozo have launched efforts to reopen a road abandoned 20 years ago across River Mayanja. The route would boost trade and access to services, but heavy machinery is needed. Mpigi District has pledged support despite budget constraints.
Mpigi District stakeholders have agreed to lift the sand transport suspension once conditions are met. Measures include road humps, murram maintenance, a designated truck route in Kituntu, and stricter controls on Sinotruks. A follow-up meeting is set for 4 September.
Yesterday, Mpigi District leaders held a community baraza at Bukasa Trading Centre to address residents’ concerns, including road dust, illegal charges and public service issues. Sand transport was halted, and leaders later inspected Kituntu Health Centre III.
