Nearly $2 billion is going to support California public transit! 🚊🚃🚍
This funding from last year's budget will advance our world-leading climate goals while putting our transit agencies on a path toward long-term sustainability.

Last year, we fought along side the Governor and this administration to reauthorize Cap-and-Trade to ensure critical funding went to housing, transit and air quality programs statewide. Now, @AirResources has a proposal up for vote this Thursday that would CUT $2 billion in funding from these very same programs.
Shouldn’t a program the Governor named Cap-and-Invest, preserve the funding where California needs it most?
Join the more than 100 organizations statewide in opposing these proposed regulations, this Thursday at CARB’s board meeting.

With the support of 100+ orgs, we’re continuing to take our message directly to the Gov, Legislature, and CARB.
This week, amplification is key. Call your legislators, demand their engagement; repost and share why this funding matters to you; and join CARB’s May 28 meeting.
$2B annually.
That's what CA stands to lose in investment in affordable housing, public transit, and clean air programs if the @AirResources acts THIS WEEK to adopt amendments to the Cap-and-Invest program.
These amendments move us backward on climate, affordability, & jobs.
California’s cap-and-trade climate program will raise less money from polluters as the state focuses on affordability. Available funds will go first to high-speed rail and the state budget. https://t.co/NHvdd5lsTj
For over a month, @CalTransit and coalition partners have sounded the alarm, engaging local electeds, legislators, CARB, and press; highlighted real-world impacts; urged reconsideration. We’ve gained, but time is running out. The time to act is now.
Executive Director Michael Pimentel responds to climate and energy affordability legislation signed by Governor Newsom this morning, “On behalf of the California Transit Association, I thank Governor Newsom, the Legislature, and their staffs for giving our Association a seat at the table, as we worked collectively to ensure these critical investments support California’s public transit systems and our riders statewide."
During a press conference organized by @ClimateSafeCA earlier today, Executive Director Michael Pimentel emphasized the impact of Cap & Trade program investments to date and emphasized the importance of continued investments to support California's climate goals.
MTS is leading the nation on transit ridership recovery.
🚌 80M trips annually
📍95% pre-pandemic ridership
📈 2nd fastest ridership recovery
But the state budget threatens this progress with $3B in cuts to transit funding.

The LCFS is essential for California’s low carbon future. That’s why @CalTransit is joining organizations and communities from across the state to urge the adoption of the @AirResources LCFS amendments this Friday. Read my Op-Ed in @StreetsblogCal.
California's Low Carbon Fuel Standard has recently has come under attack. But if California is serious about climate action, we must clean up our fuel supply while also reducing our dependence on fossil fuels. https://t.co/c1ectcfO1w
A win for CA’s rail electrification efforts. Congrats @alex_lee@streetsforall! @CalTransit was proud to support this bill to provide rail projects the same CEQA exemptions provided to other clean transit projects.
BIG STREET SAFETY NEWS: Gov Newsom just signed our bill to require CA to do more to improve safety for all users on state-owned city surface streets (eg 19th Ave, Lombard).
The state needs to do more to enhance safe street design & SB 960 is a big step forward in accountability.
#SB1904 by @AsmChrisWard has been signed into law! Thank you Gov. @GavinNewsom for supporting public transit, ensuring safe right of way and efficient reentry into traffic for buses!
Amazing event to celebrate the start of @Caltrain electrified service in the Bay Area! This transformational project was made possible by countless partners at the federal, state, regional, and local levels. Electrification will deliver faster, more frequent, and quieter service.
What a week! Thank you @Capitol_Weekly for recognizing the budget advocacy work I led this year on behalf of @CalTransit and transit agencies across the state. It’s an honor to be included in the Top 100!

Nearly $2B in much-needed state funding can now move to CA transit agencies as @CAgovernor announces the lifting of the state spending freeze and the approval of 22 regional allocation packages. An additional $500M will be approved in the weeks ahead!
Great news: this budget agreement preserves the state’s $5.1B commitment to CA transit agencies and their riders. This funding will be critical as transit agencies regrow their ridership and build a foundation for transformation! TY @CAgovernor@ilike_mike@CASpeakerRivas!
Today we announced a 2024 state budget agreement with @CASpeakerRivas and Pro Tem @ilike_mike that will support the state’s fiscal stability while preserving key programs that Californians depend on.
