Another Standard trophy, this time with BW Lifegain. Started with Moseo over Innocence and the deck was fine but not amazing, this version is better.
The archetype is one Caves of Koilos away from being amazing, Town coming in tapped lategame hurts in a lot of spots.
Been playing this Mono W deck in leagues recently and finally got the trophy. 20-5 in the last 5 leagues overall, deck is great vs control and pretty good vs the Cub decks. Definitely recommend it for people who are looking for something different in Standard
@forestwithout Kanavi was a top 3-4 jungler in the LPL, moves to LCK and instantly gets crowned the undisputed best jungler in the world. Meanwhile Xun is fighting in the mud with Monki/Tian/Junjia
NOTICING a slight difference in their performance here at MSI
@forestwithout Bin can build whatever when he has Knight/Viper but when your carries are oinking the human players on the team need to maximize their in-game equity even more
@forestwithout It can be overblown how much items impact, I just think this game was a especially bad. If Ambessa has Shojin + Maw instead of BC + Serpents, he can kill/force Syndra flash in that fight and Jhin never is in a position to fuck up. Berserker prob finds a different way to lose tho
@forestwithout I agree with your main point about Saint/Berserker, I just think this specific game Dhokla could have been Thanos and carried 1vs9 with a better build, but he built for the side 1vs1 vs Sion for some reason
@caro_irl cards that already saw play like Bowmasters, and allows cards that never saw play in Vintage before to show up, like Knight of Infamy.
Combat is one of the first things players learn and it's a core part of the game, so it being relevant is nice from a game design standpoint
@caro_irl WPA was too extreme for Legacy, but I think it is a huge plus for Vintage. Having an aggro deck exist in the most powerful format is cool for multiple reasons. Being able to attack and block gets a new meaning with Initiative in the format, and it both changes the context of old
@forestwithout The way him and Skewmond played the fights in G4 was mental, people don't understand how hard it is to play melees vs Cait/Lux/Falio and not get fucked before the fight even starts
@forestwithout It's funny that G2 has beaten GenG 3-0 in a series not once but twice, but T1 has only managed to do it once since the GenG rebrand in 2018.
Duress really is the perfect Magic card. Legal in every format from Standard to Vintage to Premodern, sees play in each, without being overpowered. Goes after the right people, usually a SB card, so if it shows up maindeck it's an indication that something is wrong.
Undefeated in swiss, died in Top8 at the AC12.
Wasnt super happy with the metagame but managed to win vs some "bad" matchups anyways.
PT Amsterdam inbound.
Special thanks to the team: Toni, Noor, Duke, Justin, Marcus, Leo and Alex who is in top4 currently. Go get that worlds Q!!!
Even though it's not that powerful in Standard, the incentives are bad and I don't trust them to not print Consider style effects somewhere during the 3 years it is supposed to be in Standard.
This sums up a lot of what is wrong with Standard currently: very few of the appealing 3/4/5 mana cards are actually playable if you are trying to win. Wizards have put too much power in cheap cantrip/card draw effects and bounce effects.
These are solvable problems, and Wizards have indicated that they are aware of these issues in some of the previous BnR announcement. I am just not sure they are willing to take the drastic measures necessary, especially after seeing a card like Flow State get printed.
