Just because nobody spoke about it doesn't mean it can be ignored or forgotten.
Kapil Dev was right there. In the stadium. Watching India win yet another World Cup. And nobody thought to call him to the field.
Think about that for a second.
The man who started everything, who in 1983 took the Indian team to the Lord's and beat the mighty West Indies when nobody gave them a chance. He was sitting in the pavilion while Dhoni and Rohit walked out with the trophy at the final of the last T20 World Cup. Two stars, absolutely deserving, but what about the legend? The original one? Left in his seat.
Back in 2023, Kapil wasn't even invited to the ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad. He said it himself: "They didn't call me, so I didn't go." No bitterness, no drama. Just a man stating a fact that shouldn't have been a fact.
So why does this keep happening?
Saying that this was a T20 World Cup and not the 'other' World Cup is a technicality that feels pretty hollow when you're talking about the man who put Indian cricket on the map. A cherished memory for so many Indians.
We all know Kapil has never been the kind of person to play politics or stay quiet. He openly backed the women wrestlers protesting against a ruling party MP. He speaks his mind.
What makes it worse is the setting. India's biggest stadium. India winning a historic third T20 title. Dhoni and Rohit getting their moment in the sun. And Kapil Dev, the doyen of all of this, watching from the stands like just another spectator.
No official explanation. No acknowledgment. Nothing.
The pettiness will be short-lived.
The legend will continue forever.
C'est ouf! The far-right has been stopped for now!
If the recent election results from England, Poland, and Spain are anything to go by, looks like Europe is pushing back. Hope it continues!
