Admin,
Teachers love to feel appreciated. Mugs & snacks are lovely, but what we really want is an ongoing culture of appreciation built through encouraging our autonomy, inviting our flexibility, coaching our failures & your regular presence in our classes.

Once more for the folks in the back row, rewarding kids for reading with incentives prevents them from developing intrinsic motivation to read. Plan your summer reading programs accordingly! Here’s @alfiekohn’s words on the topic.
Grading Practices That Discourage Growth Mindset:
1. Deducting points for late work
2. Not allowing retakes
3. Allowing retakes but averaging the attempts
4. Grading for accuracy on 1st attempt.

It's a powerful device, so I'm posting it twice. :) In a 2017 study, students shut down cell phones, stored them away, and tried to forget about 'em. Silently, the phones fought back. A recent piece I did for @edutopia.
Reflection for admin, teachers, support staff, students: What are you contributing to your school culture? How are you making your school a better place? #FutureDriven
We do not use the term ‘balanced literacy.’ Instead we prefer RESPONSIVE TEACHING: knowing the learner, then knowing the text, then deciding what areas to teach and adjusting your instruction based on what you observe in your students. #FPLiteracy
The best discipline strategy is building relationships! When students feel you know and care about them, they work harder, behave better, and don't want to let you down.
