@chrishardingth1 Ah ok, well we've gone down similar research paths then. I'm currently working out some stuff for a potential documentary series related to a person in the Will Brown lynching photo. We should hang out sometime and compare notes!
@chrishardingth1 Also, Dennison had motive. Ed Smith and the morals squad threatened the bottom line. He also had the connection to the Rosewater machine over at The Bee.
Circumstantial, yes, but... lots of it.
@chrishardingth1 Hoffman was his personal secretary,he and Agnes went to hiding in Denver, where he cut his teeth, came back and raised a family with a salary from cushy city jobs.
Surely there were more parties involved, but their involvement would be in addition to, not instead of, Dennison's.
@chrishardingth1 This was in the World Herald. The kleagle was run out of Sacramento for being shady, came here, persuaded Dahlman to start the first U.S. fascist org. Their headquarters were in the Woodmen building. They fizzled before they ever got off the ground, fortunately a failed venture
@chrishardingth1 I've spend the past few years researching this (I'm the one who originally posted that photo of Dahlman in Blackshirt on the Omaha History Club Facebook page) and while Menard missed some spots, which is to be expected in the pre-digital-archive age, his thesis holds up imo
@chrishardingth1 Hi Chris, thanks for the thoughtful analysis. But there is strong circumstantial evidence tying Dennison to the lynching.
1. There were free taxi rides offered to anyone who wanted to go downtown that day. Who paid for it, and why?
@chrishardingth1 2. There was free booze flowing from an unidentified source. Who provide it, and why?
3. Milton Hoffman worked as Dennison's personal secretary. After the lynching he and Agnes were whisked off to Denver (Dennison's old stomping grounds) where they married and started a family.
