There are two massive problems at #mufc, and the interview Solskjaer did today highlights them even more. Ole revealed a list of young players he suggested to the board to sign:

- Haaland, (£6m in 2019 then again in 2020 for £20m)
- Caicedo (£4m in 2021)
- Bellingham (£30m in 2020)
- Declan Rice (£50m+ in 2021).

He was told that these players were not ready or not worth the money, which is worrying considering they are all worth £100m+ now. Ole was desperate to sign Haaland, having worked with him in Norway, but was told that Ighalo (cheaper), Cavani, and Ronaldo were better options. All of these players were way past their best and did not suit the system he wanted to play.

We have seen Man City, Liverpool, and more recently Arsenal rebuild by buying young, up-and-coming players in the £30-£60m range, rather than making a few big-name signings. Rangnick told Man Utd that they needed to copy this approach, suggesting that in January 2022 they signed Julian Alvarez (£16M) and Enzo Fernandez (£12M), but were told they had no money to spend (funny considering they paid themselves £30m in dividends a week later). 18 months later, both players are worth £100m and are exactly what this #mufc is missing :(

It shocks me that a team that has made some of the worst transfer mistakes in football completely ignored and laughed off the advice of Ralf Rangnick, who has one of the best talent IDs in football.

This summer, Ten Hag's number one target was Harry Kane (a player Ole revealed he tried to sign in 2019 but was told he was too expensive). Joel Glazer told the club they could not sign Harry Kane as he wasn't the right signing #mufc should be making. Whether you agree with that or not, the fact that Joel Glazer, someone who does not watch football and admitted to not understanding the offside rule, makes the final decision about who we sign says it all. £1.4b spent since Sir Alex Ferguson left and little success.

People are very critical of the scouts and analysts at Man Utd, but time and time again, they suggest very good up-and-coming players. However, those at the top (Joel Glazer/Woodward) do not approve these signings, either because they do not rate the players or do not want to spend the money.

My question is, do any other top clubs hire scouts and analysts only for the owner to overrule the players they find and choose who to sign?

You can change the manager all you want, but if the system does not change, rebuilding will always be ten times harder than it would be at a club like Man City.
This doesn't even mention the fact that Ole revealed he was only allowed to sign three first-team players a season. I will cover that in part 2 tomorrow.

Absolutely unjustified. He’s been an awesome addition to the United squad and has really grown as a keeper. Those mistakes don’t define him, blame the atrocious defending he’s had for years. Hope he stays for a few more.
