Knowing English isn't a benchmark of knowledge or intellect. Please read it again. My parents and the society I've grown up in - the Indian middle class of the suburbs of Bombay have so many businessmen and businesswomen who are far more intellectual and learned than a lot of fluently eloquent English speakers I come across everyday. The colonial hangover is a tad bit much and very 2018. My father has grown up in a small room with 7 siblings and ended up raise two fine entrepreneurs, a comfortable house and didn't speak a word of English - a lot of my friends who are in civil services and very senior doctors, their families don't speak English either. So correcting others syntax, making fun of how they speak or use certain words is lack of judgement. You probably don't know how did they learn or where they come from. They stay silent about the mockery because they might be far ahead in their lives than you and I. So English is not the only parameter right?
