Last Friday these first graders learned how to create their own constellations out of marshmallows and toothpicks!

Today these first graders took on the roles of maze designers and engineers. They created their mazes with gummy candies and toothpicks, and then tested them with a gum ball.

I loved how many were testing and then adjusting their designs to make the perfect maze!

This week our little scientists created their own aluminum foil boats. They then tested the boats to see how many Smarties they could hold before they sunk!

Spoiler: these kiddos’ boats could hold literally HUNDREDS of Smarties!!

For today’s science experiment our students observed how gas can take up space. We used 3 bottles of soda, Skittles, Nerds, Pop Rocks, and balloons.

The results were really interesting! None of us expected which candy would inflate the balloons!

Last week, during our club time, our fabulous first graders created callouts that showcased their understanding of intonation and punctuation.

Mo Willems’ @The_Pigeon books are perfect examples for the use of periods, question, and exclamation marks.
