Following Mr. Governor’s directive to clear the waste backlog across the state and strengthen enforcement against illegal dumping, we have just concluded a productive engagement with the leadership of NURTW and RTEAN at the Ministry of Transportation.
The meeting was convened Mr. Governor @jidesanwoolu represented by the Deputy Chief of Staff and the Honourable Commissioner for Transportation @seunosiyemi_ , with the participation of @Sola_Giwa, as part of a special task force approach to protect our roads, highways, bus stops and motor parks from indiscriminate waste dumping.
The transport unions gave their commitment to support the Lagos State Government by helping to monitor their routes, parks and bus stops, and by discouraging illegal dumping and poor waste practices in transport corridors across the state.
The Honourable Commissioner for Transportation also made it clear that transport managers whose locations are found to be dirty or poorly maintained will be held accountable. To ensure proper coordination, a dedicated platform will be established for regular engagement, monitoring and follow-up.
We appreciate the support of the transport unions during the recent environmental sanitation exercise and look forward to deepening this collaboration as we expand the clampdown on illegal dumping and work together to keep Lagos cleaner, safer and more orderly.

Dear Lagosians,
I have directed an immediate scale-up of waste evacuation across Lagos following the recent build-up of refuse in some parts of our state.
LAWMA, LASEPA, and the Ministry of Environment are currently working around the clock. We have deployed extra trucks and personnel to clear the backlogs across all affected neighbourhoods. You should already see progress on the streets and we will not stop until our city is completely clean again.
Lagos generates over 13,000 tons of waste every single day. Managing this requires a massive effort but our determination to fix the current challenge is absolute.
As we continue this cleanup, I ask for your partnership. Please bag your waste properly and avoid dumping refuse in drainage channels or on the roads.
We are fully on top of this situation. Let us work together to keep Lagos clean and safe for everyone.
Premier League isn’t adopting the World Cup red rule for covering mouth and hiding potential discriminatory abuse in confrontational situations. The “Prestianni Rule” is at “discretion of competition organisers” anyway. The principle is obviously sound: clamping down on discriminatory abuse. If it’s not offensive, then why cover your mouth?
Emphasis on “confrontational” - players can cover mouth if communicating with own team-mates, tactical etc. Can’t plead ignorance; all players were informed pre-tournament. Rule introduced after Real Madrid’s Vini Jr accused Benfica’s Gianluca Prestianni of racist remarks while covering mouth.
Paraguay’s Miggy Almiron dismissed last night on VAR intervention after covering mouth during confrontation with Turkey’s Mert Muldur (who pointed out Almiron’s mouth covering to ref). It's inevitably sparked a debate. Principle sound but application is more nuanced. Consistency. Define confrontational. Loudness, body language etc. It’s not known what Almiron said, and a good lawyer could shred the case.
Debate about proportionality, too: Almiron got a yellow card for cheating (dive v USA) and a red for an offence that is difficult to prove. Some would like to see the mouth-covering rule made a yellow, not red offence. I’d rather see simulation upgraded to red.
Final thing: Miggy Almiron's 2026 World Cup experience is fast turning into a pub quiz question.
