While fighting to defend the city, he suffered a devastating gunshot wound to his arm but continued resisting alongside his fellow soldiers at the Azovstal steel plant.

After the city's fall, Dianov was taken into Russian captivity, where he spent months in harsh conditions with little medical treatment.

On November 15, 2025, 55-year-old John Brandt was driving his Tesla Model Y from Atlanta to Birmingham to help care for his mother when he suddenly developed severe chest pain around 4 a.m.

The pain quickly became unbearable, and he realised he could no longer drive safely.

Fortunately, his Tesla's Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system was already engaged, keeping the vehicle in its lane while he called his son, Jack, for help.

Jack, an authorised driver on the Tesla account, used the Tesla app from miles away to remotely reroute the car to Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, Georgia. He also called the hospital so doctors would be waiting when his father arrived.

The Tesla safely exited the motorway, navigated to the emergency department, and stopped at the entrance, where medical staff were already prepared to receive him.

Doctors diagnosed Brandt with a massive STEMI heart attack caused by three blocked arteries. They later told him that if he had pulled over to wait for an ambulance or tried to continue driving to Birmingham, he likely would not have survived.

After emergency treatment, Brandt recovered and credited both his family and the Tesla's driving technology with helping save his life.

Tesla has highlighted the incident while continuing to stress that Full Self-Driving is a supervised driver-assistance system and does not replace an attentive driver.

In 1993, American man James Scott was accused of deliberately causing one of the worst floods in Missouri's history by sabotaging a levee along the Mississippi River during the Great Flood of 1993.

Authorities alleged that Scott removed sandbags and tampered with the levee, allowing millions of gallons of water to pour through the breach.

The resulting flood inundated nearly 14,000 acres of farmland, destroyed homes and businesses, forced hundreds of people to evacuate, and caused millions of dollars in damage.

Prosecutors argued that one of Scott's motives was to keep his wife from returning home so he could continue partying and avoid responsibilities, though they also suggested he enjoyed the attention and excitement surrounding the disaster.

Scott denied intentionally causing the flood, but he was convicted of intentionally causing a catastrophe and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

In 2023, graduate student Alejandro Velez found an unusual solution to one of California's biggest problems - sky-high rent.

While studying for his master's degree at the University of California, Berkeley, he realized that renting an apartment near campus would cost him around $20,000 a year.

Instead of paying those housing costs, he decided to commute by plane from Los Angeles.

Three times a week, Velez woke up before dawn, headed to the airport, boarded a short flight to the San Francisco Bay Area, attended his classes at UC Berkeley, and then flew back home later the same day.

He carefully planned his schedule around flight times, often using the journey to study, complete assignments, or prepare for lectures.

By booking tickets well in advance, taking advantage of airline deals, and avoiding expensive accommodation near campus, he spent only about $5,600 on flights over the course of the year, saving more than $14,000 compared to renting in Berkeley.

Although the routine was exhausting and required meticulous planning, Velez said it was the most financially sensible option.

His unconventional commute quickly went viral online, with many people calling it one of the most creative ways to beat California's housing crisis.

Despite travelling hundreds of miles every week, he successfully completed his master's degree and proved that, in some cases, flying to university can actually be cheaper than living nearby.

In 1994, George Pickering II rushed to a hospital in Texas after doctors declared his 27-year-old son, George Pickering III, brain dead following a massive stroke caused by a drug overdose.

Believing his son was still alive, Pickering refused to accept the diagnosis and became convinced the doctors were preparing to remove him from life support too soon.

Desperate to save him, Pickering smuggled a handgun into the intensive care unit, locked himself inside his son's hospital room, and held police and hospital staff at bay for several hours.

Throughout the standoff, he repeatedly spoke to his son, urging him to squeeze his hand if he could hear him.

According to Pickering, his son eventually moved his hand, convincing him that he was still conscious.

After the standoff ended peacefully, doctors postponed removing life support.

Against expectations, George Pickering III gradually regained consciousness, eventually made a remarkable recovery, and later said he remembered hearing his father's voice urging him to fight.

He later publicly credited his father with saving his life.

In Syria, Jad Issa, a man born with Down syndrome, spent more than 25 years working at a local wheat mill to provide for his family.

Despite living in a society where people with disabilities often face prejudice and low expectations, Jad became known in his community for his honesty, kindness, and strong work ethic.

His co-workers respected him, and he took great pride in supporting his wife and raising his son.From an early age, Jad encouraged his son, Sader Issa, to work hard, be kind to others, and never give up on his dreams.

Although many people doubted Jad because of his condition, he never allowed it to define who he was or what he could achieve as a father.

Instead, he focused on giving his son a loving home and every opportunity to build a successful future.

Inspired by his father's determination and unconditional love, Sader went on to study dentistry and eventually became a qualified dentist.

He has often described Jad as his greatest role model, saying his father taught him that true strength comes from character, not appearances or intelligence.

Speaking about his father, Sader said, "If I could choose who my father is, I wouldn't think of someone else. I'm proud of him the same way he's proud of me."

He has also shared that growing up with Jad taught him compassion, humility, and respect, qualities that have shaped both his career and his life.
