🧡 It's #Juneteenth! A day to commemorate the end of slavery and celebrate the resilience of those who fought for liberty.
📷 This image, featured in our middle school literacy curriculum, shows an Emancipation Day celebration from the early 1900s in Austin, Texas.
Happy Last Day! Today we had our annual “Third Grade Graduation” where students received awards, spoke about their favorite moments of the year, and enjoyed a sweet cake! I’ll miss this sweet group of kiddos. Have a wonderful summer! #d123#hmt123
As an EdTech fanatic myself, it's sad to see tools such as this one and even Google Jamboard disappearing. These were both tools that brought my class together during the pandemic and still unites us together.
If you haven't heard, Microsoft Flip as we know it is being retired.
So many emotions. Sad. Grateful. Disappointed. Thankful.
I've seen EdTech tools and companies come and go for the last 12+ years.
Flipgrid was different. (Yes, in the end it was called Microsoft Flip, but to many of us, it'll always be Flipgrid.)
The product was unique ... But the community was INCREDIBLE.
Educators rallied around Flipgrid not for the product but for the mission: empower student voice. Or, as Flipgrid cofounder @design2research said, bringing the back row of the class to the front row.
I made lifelong friends because of Flipgrid.
The tool was incredible. (I could say "is" because "still in Microsoft Teams" and all, but that'll disqualify lots of us ... and today's Microsoft Flip is NOT the best version of itself.)
Flipgrid did elegantly what other tools tried to do -- and just didn't do as well.
(And I'm on team @HollyClarkEdu -- don't come at me with "x tool can record video." Nothing else does what it did in the way it did.)
I'm grateful and thankful for the people that made Flipgrid special ...
... but mostly I'm just disappointed.
If you stay around for a while, you see this happen. A product that was someone's passion / pride and joy ... gets acquired by a company that doesn't care as much. And something special gets lost from the world.
Students and teachers lose in this decision.
All in the attempt to make Microsoft profitable and efficient.
My heartfelt thanks to those that made Flipgrid special, including @Taralson, @Savvy_Educator, @jessxbo, @GridPalGeorge, @FelyTeachnology, @annkozma723, @MrCoachK15 and so many more.
I'll try to find new tools. (Please don't recommend any here. Not ready for that yet.) But for right now, I just need to settle my emotions and say ...
To my #FlipgridFam ... Thank you 💚
For generations, LGBTQI+ Americans have summoned the courage to live proudly – even when it meant putting their lives at risk.
This Pride Month, we recommit to realizing the promise of America for all, to celebrating LGBTQI+ people, and to taking pride in the example they set.
I love our 4th Science Unit - It goes perfectly with what we are talking about in Math with data tables! What you’re seeing is students creating data tables using data we collected from a game ☺️ #d123#hmt123
We had a BLAST at the Museum of Science and Industry today! I think my favorite thing is that the museum had something from sooo many of our @Amplify Science and CKLA units from the human body, weather, gravity, and more! #d123#hmt123
Students are writing about what it would be like in space in our current Astronomy unit in CKLA @Amplify We got in the space mood by taking some out of this world photos to go with our writing! #d123#hmt123
Inhale… Exhale…
Spa Day for our first time STAAR testers. After a year’s worth of hard work, 3rd grade was ready for a little time to kick back and relax ✨
Something about writing students personal STAAR letters always leaves me with thinking of all the good things. Reflecting on their growth and successes continuous to make me a better teacher every year! 🥹✨#ProudTeacherMoment ✨
Happy Eclipse Day! I put together this quick Google Site with information about the Eclipse and why we must protect our eyes as well! Check it out: https://t.co/uHsNhbaZ38
What better way to raise money for updating our bathrooms than to get a chance to slap a pie in @AmandaBencik or @mrcarson_ or Ms.Smith? Student council collected money to redo our student bathrooms. These three sure are good sports #hmt123#d123
