Teens and exams
1 day a time for us and for them.
Yes timetables and key words up on commonly used doors… bathrooms, fridge etc, might make an impact, might not!
Remain calm, it’ll be ok!
Adding stress to them won’t make them study more- it’ll just cause stress #teenbrain
Teens and exam season!
Teen brains are very limited with future consequences/outcomes, their world is immediate and quick!
Counting down …. 9 days to exams, 8 days, 7 days…..!! DONT DO THIS!!
A countdown will create stress NOT focus
#teenagebrain#exams#tribes
@Hanbotts taught you with Mr Athill at Monks! Bringing a group up from my new school tomorrow, can’t wait! all the best and congratulations on how far you’ve comes amazing!
When you hear your teen upset or someone being unkind to them…. It hurts but our response is being watched!
To get involved, become angry at the the other party, to text or ring and be emotional?
Or
Be the flat line (YOU) and show your teen consistency
#teenagebrain#rolemodel
Role models…
Can you not react, not judge, not respond, but just listen and support.
If we can show teens how to respond appropriately it’s very likely they will take those skills with them into adulthood!
Test yourself- WHATEVER they tell you!
#teenagebrain#rolemodel
Role models- That’s us!
Teens watch all the time, an example..
Shouting at a teen- “don’t you shout at me!”
The power is in the actions of you shouting, not the words you are saying
In this example you are showing your teen it’s actually ok to shout at them!
#teenagebrain
Role models!! (Next to communication, the most important for teens)
Some questions..
Who were yours?
What do you now do/say/believe/spout… that, actually, might just be historic role models in action!
More this week Role models…!

Some re-cap infobefore holidays!
Teenagers & their tribes!
The biggest stress/worry for teens is friends!
Will they have any? Who? Where and when? Will they fall out?
We are designed to be social animals- but will they be liked and not judged by anyone!!! #teenagebrain
We awoke this morning to the terrible news of The Olive & Vine and The Angel Inn, Midhurst being destroyed by fire. Thankfully, no one has been seriously injured. The Angel Inn had been the temporary home of families fleeing the conflict in the Ukraine.
So these invisible friends judge and talk secretly to our teenagers all the time!
Sometimes their emotional response to you/us is sharp as they seek to please these invisible friends (the chimp)!
We’ve been teenagers and we’ve all felt these pressures and voices
