Sakura-Con now has an Accessibility webpage thanks to our petition!
Please share far and wide--today is a day for celebration! 🥳

Everyone benefits from an event being accessible. Any one of us can become disabled if we're not already.
But someone with existing disabilities cannot commit to buying a membership to Sakura-Con unless they know what accommodations are available.
I am petitioning #sakuracon to resolve some accessibility and privacy issues.
One of our demands is simply to post their accessibility info on their website.
Disabled people can't viably attend an event if they don't know the ADA services.

A decade ago, the discourse was about 'big data'.
I could see the value to humanity in crowdsourcing traffic incidents and things for waze and Google Maps.
I fail to see the value in generative AI except to concentrate wealth to corporations by devaluing artists and their art.
Artists, professionals and novices alike, would you ever consider licensing your work for AI training?
I'm interested where people stand on this based on another poll.
Thank you so much @NWIdolFest for having us this year!
It’s always great to see the growth of the community and we hope everyone else had as much of a blast as we did. We look forward to what you have in store for next year 😊

Defunding the police means undoing the excessive spending they do that takes taxpayer dollars away from other services like education and affordable housing.
@707KAT A lot of sites make it too convenient to click the one button signup and they bury creation of a manual sign in.
I like the sign up pattern on @404mediaco which just needs name and email address. Then to sign in you enter your email and it sends a passcode to your inbox. Easy.
@CountMonsparkle@SlLENTPRINCESS yup I probably spent more hours on the short course than any other minigame 😅
I needed to shave every corner and be selective when I pressed the speed up button to eek out under 17.
@zacbowden I needed to upgrade from my Duo 2 months ago because it had power issues.
I tried the Samsung Fold but returned it cuz it was too narrow.
Then I tried the Google Pixel Fold. Just right but needed to RMA cuz the fingerprint button failed.
I'm typing this from Duo 1 now lol
@AnhPhuNguyen1@josephfcox This is not impressive.
You got your ego boosted when asking people what they thought of the tech and they said it was cool. But you ignored the person who warned that it could be used for stalking.
You didn't do your research about privacy beforehand. Slow down, ask questions.
The 'move fast or get left behind' mentality in tech will guarantee that more egregious stories like this are on their way.
If they had paused to ask themselves 'what if's, they would not have released these 'AI' chatbots in the wild.
THERE'S A BLACK MIRROR EPISODE ON THIS JFC.
This is fucking disgusting:
@character_ai is using my murdered niece as the face of a video game AI without her dad's permission. He is very upset right now. I can't imagine what he's going through.
Please help us stop this sort of terrible practice.

@TheLincoln I want to change your mind on this take.
Have you considered what happens if each class a student took would assign a book to read in 1 or 2 weeks (or any equivalent task)?
It's an unsustainable workload that causes students to not have time for anything else and burn out.
The AI safety bill may have been divisive and imperfect—but that it was vetoed, like so many others meant to rein in big tech, after passing with wide, bipartisan support, means we have a big problem in California.
Silicon Valley has far too much power.

@Rahll This is one of the talking points brought up at an AI art panel at an anime convention I attended.
The panelist was trying to convince the audience that copyright law was stupid and only served the wealthy therefore generative AI was okay.
This is a really wild story in part because Udemy is being more transparent than other companies, and is saying: It is too expensive for us to delete your data once it's already been scraped. So what are the other companies doing?
Using AI to write production code is similar to outsourcing. You are no longer doing the fun stuff: designing and writing high quality code. Instead you: Review bad code N times to make it somewhat acceptable, panic fix bugs in production, maintain ever growing messy code base.
Today Nintendo released Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom a game whose trailer I was sold on right away.
They would never waste their time with AI when they have timeless, beloved character design including Zelda, Super Mario bros, and Pokemon on their platform.
Shigeru Miyamoto has said Nintendo would rather go in a “different direction” than the rest of the video game industry when it comes to generative AI. https://t.co/AuGRbSOMeu
Can we go back to the old days of AI and ML?
Back then you brought your own data that you had permission to use instead of plagiarizing all the world's media.
Tech didn't guzzle excess water and electricity because it was scoped to specific tasks you designed with *INTENTION*.
@kelseyhightower Yup I bought my watch because it had sensors and showed me the health data on the device, but it does not require an app to function so it's not continuously selling out my data to third parties.
