Some of our disputes around redundancy and restructures are recieving lots of attention.
Some points:
1) This union will defend every job to its utmost ability.
2) Declining pupil rolls should be used as an opportunity to bring class sizes down.
3) Restructures and redundancies are leading to:
- Bigger class sizes
- Fewer subject choices
- Fewer teachers and support staff
- Less support for children with SEND
4) Failure to fund education underpins this. Another unfunded pay award will lead to another £1.1 Billion of cuts.
5) Our students deserve better than this willful neglect from those with the power to do better.
On 3rd October we are launching a formal national ballot to #SaveEducation
More drivel coming out of @educationgovuk about how teachers have had "generous pay rises"
After 6 years of teaching a teacher earns:
- in England £45352
- in Scotland £54453
So a teacher in Glasgow at the same stage of their career earns £9k a year more than a teacher in Manchester.
A house in Glasgow is 3.4 x the annual salary of a teacher, where as a house in Manchester is 5.5 x the salary of a teacher.
Enough is enough.
3rd October our formal ballot opens.
@SwailesRuth You have summed this up so well. I just wish people outside the profession knew! Then maybe the government would provide adequate support.
