This morning, The Right Worshipful Lord Mayor of Southampton met with Southampton Pride to raise the Pride Progress Flag outside of the Civic Centre.
This mark's the start of the city's Pride celebrations 🏳️🌈✨
Absolutely disgusting to see a bisexual politician abused on the streets of Scotland like this. All the progress we’ve made as LGBTQ+ people used as fodder for a hateful culture war.
Solitary with @patrickharvie who has always stood up for LGBTQ+ people in good times and bad.
I’ll look both ways before holding hands.
While running alone, I’ll wear trainers without rainbow laces in.
If I can’t figure you out, I’ll deflect your questions about my personal life.
And a thousand other things you’d never know.
Because we all still live in fear of this.
Sinead O’Connor played Gay Pride in 1988, alongside Erasure, just a month after Section 28 had been passed.
Pride back then was much more of a protest, lesbians and gays were treated as 2nd class citizens.
Performing at Pride was a sign of allyship, when there were few to be had.
