Exclusive: Hours after India made public assurances last week that its ethanol-blended petrol was safe, the country's main auto lobby withdrew a complaint about fuel contamination it had sent to the government a week earlier. The group said some figures needed more checks.
But separate communications between industry executives, reviewed by Reuters, showed that in the preceding days, top automakers Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors and Mahindra discussed their concerns about contamination of petrol blended with 20% ethanol, called E20.
The carmakers' emails show for the first time how they are privately worried about contaminants in E20, like chloride and moisture, which they say are hurting vehicles, even as they publicly back the government's rollout of the fuel https://t.co/EMEBwbJeF1
The evidence is damning!
E20 petrol has a HUGE contamination problem.
Govt knew all of this as automakers had emailed SIAM, who in turn wrote to the Govt!
It's stunning...
Top Mahindra engineer: "Majority cases reported immediately after fuelling ... is due to organic chloride. Mahindra has "strong evidences" of fuel sample data from retail outlets. Chloride can destroy engines in 200 Kms".
Maruti Executive Officer: "1 ppm of chloride was the maximum that current fuel injectors can tolerate."
Automakers (Maruti, Tata and Mahindra) reportedly found over 200 samples with massive chloride contamination that can literally destroy engine fuel systems within 200 Kms.
Automakers found heavy contamination in 18 states!!!
Petroleum minister Hardeep Puri: We found only 3 cases of chloride contamination.
Now you know why the SIAM letter was 'withdrawn', forcibly?
And what about the press conferences that top automakers conducted? What a shit show!
PS: Tata, Mahindra did NOT participate in these press conferences held hurriedly (at gunpoint?) to sing praises about E20.

The SIAM letter exposes critical issues with E20 fuel - from chloride contamination to spiking fuel injector and pump failures.
Even worse? SIAM flagged this to BIS over 2 years ago, yet standards are still missing. Treating standard-setting as a simple copy-paste job ignores India’s unique environmental conditions, storage infrastructure, and local climate realities.
Why are consumers left paying the price for unstandardized fuel?

EXPOSED: The document the Government tried hard to erase.
On July 28, 2026, SIAM officially warned the Union Govt that Excessive chloride in E20 petrol is actively damaging your vehicles.
Instead of protecting your hard earned money & your vehicles the govt went after news articles that reported on this SIAM letter.
DOWNLOAD & SAVE THIS LETTER NOW before it gets pulled down again.
To every politician across party lines: Stand up for the citizens of India today, or admit you don't serve them.
Team Bharat accepts full responsibility for releasing this suppressed letter. We do not fear the consequences. The truth belongs to the public.

Volvo car owners move Supreme Court. Want the old diesel car ban to be cancelled!!!
Instead, they want emissions of old diesel cars tested. If found ok, such cars must be allowed to remain on the road, say Volvo car owners.
Totally sensible idea. What do you think?
NGTs idiotic old car ban must go!!!

@ShivrattanDhil1@seikowatches@ROLEX This is only one category, look at the entire catalog - yes there are more “inspired” designs but Seikos have great original designs too!
SIAM FLAGS SERIOUS E20 FUEL QUALITY ISSUES TO GOVERNMENT
Key concerns raised by SIAM:
Chloride contamination reportedly reached 500 mg/kg, raising corrosion and component wear risks.
Moisture levels exceeded 10,000 mg/kg, far above the 3,000 mg/kg specification, increasing the risk of ethanol-water phase separation.
Automakers have reported a sharp rise in fuel injector and fuel pump replacements.
SIAM attributes the issue primarily to ageing underground fuel storage tanks and pipelines.
SIAM has reportedly urged the government to:
Make chloride limits mandatory in E20 fuel specifications.
Enforce stricter quality monitoring by oil marketing companies (OMCs) at retail fuel outlets.
The govt is releasing press releases almost every week which are essentially the same done to death arguments which @OGTeamBharat has busted time and again.
Yet again, Team Bharat comprehensively busts the narrative of @PetroleumMin with facts and data.

@E20Party Customers will never be able to prove that the issues they face is due to E20 non compliant fuel.
It’s govt duty to ensure compliant fuel types are provided for all vehicles!
@volklub Even I don’t see much mileage difference on my car, have driven 160kms within city.
Performance has been definitely much better - I was really hoping the mileage to also increase, not sure why it didn’t happen
@airtelindia has the worst customer service. They do wrong commitment by suggesting lesser bill amounts. Cx support is non existent even for Black customers. Never get Airtel plan, Jio is far superior!
