When New World screwworm reached the United States, many feared this pest could devastate our cattle herds and rural economies.

@USDA met that threat with an aggressive, coordinated response. And today, we are turning the tide.

Confirmed cases have fallen every month: from 30 in June, to 14 in July, to just 3 in August. Today, only TWO cases remain active, three infested zones have been cleared, and there have been ZERO cases detected in wildlife.

Thank you to @GregAbbott_TX, @TAHC, @TPWDnews, @AgriLife, @TSCRA, and @TexasFarmBureau for their tremendous partnership. Most importantly, thank you to our extraordinary Texas ranchers who stayed vigilant and never hesitated to report suspected cases. Your vigilance is the reason we have achieved this success to date.

I am also incredibly grateful for our @USDA_APHIS team, led by Rear Admiral Michael Schmoyer. Through early mornings, late nights, and countless changes in direction, they have moved quickly and decisively to protect American livestock, wildlife, and our food supply. Their expertise has been second to none.

$19 MILLION in SNAP fraud.

Four men in South Florida have been federally charged in an alleged scheme to turn SNAP benefits meant to feed families into CASH.

According to @TheJusticeDept, the defendants allegedly used SNAP-authorized stores to run fraudulent transactions, paying recipients roughly HALF the amount charged and pocketing the rest.

The alleged scheme ran from 2019 to 2026 and involved more than $19 MILLION.

Thanks to @USDA_OIG, @FBI, and state and local law enforcement for helping bring this operation down.

Under @POTUS, @USDA has ZERO tolerance for fraud.

Steal from American taxpayers and we WILL find you.

There is a robust system of overlapping safeguards in place to ensure all animals entering the United States are healthy and free from New World screwworm.

@USDA is fully engaged with our partners both foreign and domestic about the confirmed case of NWS in Sonora, 292 miles from the border. Rapid detection and reporting facilitate our layered and aggressive response approach.

We have no plans to change the Douglas, AZ port reopening on 8/24.

For 18 months we have built a coordinated, highly sophisticated system inlcuding the monitoring of more than 100 NWS traps, 8000 insect traps, high-tech drone detection, 100 million sterile flies dispersed per week in Mexico and Texas, and an investment in an additional 100 million sterile flies in Metapa Mexico. The Metapa facility, which is already producing sterile flies, will soon start producing the NovoFly which will double the effectiveness of the sterile insect technique. We will have more resources layering on soon.

Last month we added the most complete entry inspection protocols possible. This includes enhanced surveillance, rapid diagnostic capacity, pre-treatment processes weeks in advance, layered inspections before and at the port, sophisticated communication and coordinated response protocols designed to protect American agriculture.

The necessary resources—personnel, technology, laboratory support, and interagency coordination—are in place and ready in Douglas.

We remain committed to continuous monitoring and will adjust protocols as conditions warrant to maintain the highest standards.

These measures provide the assurance required to resume livestock trade while safeguarding animal health.

The days of dangerous criminals exploiting SNAP and getting endless passes are OVER.

This repeat offender with at least a DOZEN arrests in the past ten years is back behind bars… now facing charges including drug trafficking, illegal possession of a weapon, and three counts of illegally using food assistance benefits.

Programs like SNAP exist to help families put food on the table — NOT to be exploited by criminals. @USDA is intensifying our work to protect program integrity, safeguard taxpayer dollars, and support law enforcement in getting dangerous individuals OFF our streets.

A $1.5 MILLION SNAP fraud scheme has been busted in Albany, New York.  

Our @USDA investigators found Top 10 Deli & Grocery allegedly:  

💳 Used stolen SNAP account numbers from recipients across state lines  
🚬 Allowed benefits to purchase alcohol and cigarettes—and exchanged benefits for cash  
📈 Redeemed 600% more SNAP benefits than comparable stores  

After one defendant purchased a one-way ticket to Saudi Arabia, federal agents moved in - seizing $20,000 in cash, records, and more than a dozen phones.  

Three defendants are now in custody. A fourth, the store’s owner, remains overseas.
