THREAD. Whale sharks were only discovered by Western scientists in 1828. Until the 1980s, there had only been a few hundred encounters with the species. Even Jacques Cousteau only ever saw two. These days, we've identified a few areas where they gather in major constellations.
Whale shark senses are amazing. They have decent vision and fantastic hearing. They can detect faint ocean currents, and navigate using Earth's magnetic field.
Then they ruin it by not paying attention, accidentally ramming each other, and totally freaking out. #FailSharks
