Visited the old bridge at Chümoukedima that used to connect to Kohima. Built during the British era and with materials from the UK, this bridge has history written all over it. It connected a very remote part of the world to the rest of the sub-continent and was an important lifeline for the British Empire.

During the 2nd World War, it ensured movement of logistics and reinforcements, and till the new bridge came, it remained as a lifeline for both the states of Nagaland and Manipur and beyond. It has tremendous tourism and experiential potential and we will all work collectively towards that destination with a strategic and sustainable master-plan.

@ankushsaikia I recently read James Johnstone! Racist in parts, ofc a product of the time. But so much insight, esp for eastern Nagaland which doesn't get written about much. I'm struck by the measured way he describes even things like his child's death or wife's illness.
