@atomkirk This resonates a lot. Some of the hardest engineering work I’ve done was deleting complexity so future engineers never have to think about it again. It’s invisible work, but it compounds.

Slow nodes > dead nodes.

Dead nodes get removed.
Slow nodes stay, block quorums, amplify retries, and take the system down politely.

I used to get this question at NPC house parties

And then I'd try explain the whole thing and it took to long "so I nomaded and then I built startups and blabla"

And it ALWAYS would turn into them wanting to escape their 9 to 5 and then asking me for hours how to and I got tired of that

So now I say

me: "I work in IT, like computers, yes"

them: "oh wow do you know ChatGPT?"

me: "No what's that? Like Whatsapp? Yeah I have chat apps already"
