i am a #blendedlearning STEAM/math teacher @MiddleSchool88 in park slope, brooklyn. i love what i do, and i love that my students call me mr. kashwell.
@mathequalslove Yes for many years in my statistics unit (so not the whole year) I had kids track their supplies every day. How many pencils, pens, erasers, etc did they have each day and we did some personal and class analysis at the end of the unit. It was super fun and informative.
Given all of the ongoing change & uncertainty in schools, I’m seeing a big push toward standardization in grading, curriculum, pacing, etc.
Much of this standardization is being framed for “equity,” and MY TIRED SELF IS NOT HAVING THAT.
Gotta call this one out, and in. 1/
Teachers at MS 88 demand & deserve better communication. DOE says 12 staff there were quarantined, but teachers have heard little. Some who were in contact have still not heard anything. The DOE "situation room" isn't online until Monday. Was needed yesterday. cc @MarkTreyger718
Thank you @ewarren for prioritizing #childcare at #DNCConvention2020. The debate on reopening schools has unproductively pitted teachers against parents, who are fundamentally aligned. It’s time we shift the conversation to addressing the root-cause problems.
Join us for Public Workshop #2 on Tuesday, March 13, from 6:30-8:30pm at Sunset Park High School! We will cover historic demographic changes, introduce precedents+data, and provide another opportunity for you to share ideas on creating meaningfully integrated middle schools!
