It's pointless to engage in discussions about Re:Zero's side characters without reading the side stories. Elsa Greinheirt, for example, can be interpreted very differently depending on whether you're an anime only, a novel reader, or someone who has also read the Apocalypse Girls side story.

In fact, Elsa's own side story is already longer than Arc 1, and Re:Zero has dozens upon dozens of side stories, with over 400 in total. That's why an anime only's understanding of a character often doesn't even cover 40% of who that character actually is.
