Three weeks ago today I deactivated my Facebook account. Here are some things I have noticed: I am more present with the family, more attentive, I have more focus and drive, much less impulsivity, I'm more inclined to read books, and I am more sincere with my wife. I feel more grounded. This has been much more impactful than I could have anticipated 🥰
I keep hearing from men telling me they are trying to stop a porn habit.
I believe this is one of the key strongholds of Satan.
The number of men willing to tell me about it, when I did not even ask—and from men who have otherwise good testimonies and good faith convictions—suggests to me that this problem is very common.
It matters that we actually flee from this—not "struggle with it."
You don't struggle with the temptation. You flee the temptation.
"Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body."
Even beside the high danger to their eternal souls, consider what is immediately at stake if men will not be quick to abandon this pattern of rebellion against God:
A pattern of vice limits a person's mental horizons.
That in turn allows a man to expand his rationalizations for ever more internal vices—and eventually for ever more visible moral errors.
Using porn is like taking stupid pills.
What our families and churches need from us (and what God expects from us) is to be doing the exact opposite:
We need to do the work each day to fill our minds with wisdom and become the leaders we have it in us to become.
Let me put it plainly:
If you see your nation in decline, and you keep dishonoring God in your personal life, why should God protect you? Why should he answer your prayers?
You have it in your power to be the man God created you to be.
God is faithful, and he will provide freedom to all who put their trust in Him.
@VitusRLegacy Excellent article! I found this to be true when I quit the social media that I was hooked on. It was eye-opening in the best way, I'm more present with the family, more sincere, more calm, more driven, more prone to read books, more patient, and much more.
@Pastor_Gabe I deactivated my FB account 2 weeks ago and it's been amazing. Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport was a big help with this, but it was my pastor's lifestyle that really flipped the switch for me.
@AlaskanKate 💯 % rude. I can't with flaky people, it drives me crazy. My skin crawls on their behalf but they don't care at all, some even think it's just a quirk.
@AndrewZywiecMD@KennyCarmody The doctor we go to in Alaska had her license threatened and was raked over the coals during the Covid Tyranny ™️. She's got the 10 Commandments in her office, and she's excellent. But she's RARE
My dad was one of the smartest, most resourceful, and most industrious people God ever made. Truly, he was a mechanical savant. He loved to watch How It’s Made and always told us to ask for wisdom. I like to think that if there was anything he didn’t understand, he knows now.
@CodyLibolt It's almost unbelievable 😱😭 😡 😡 . Those reprobates must be punished.
Ecclesiastes 8: 11 ESV
[11] Because the sentence against an evil deed is not executed speedily, the heart of the children of man is fully set to do evil.
@AlaskanKate I always found it odd that he hated working on cars(IIRC) but was a mechanical savant. I think about his prowess often nowadays. His diverse craftsmanship interests and mastery of so many of them really was astonishing.
I'm in Perryville. There's no church here. I was in Sand Point last week, the church was great. I've been to church in a few of these communities. Port Lions has a great church as well, and a ton of people show up. Unalaska's church is top tier.
@AlaskanKate I'm stuck in Perryville, a remote Alaskan village, all by myself, with only one work task to do, but they need me here for a week 😑. I've already read a couple books, it's been kinda restful but I'm also a social guy so I end up posting 3 comments on ur post 😎
@AlaskanKate Also, holy buns look how overweight I was like 5 years ago. And the durag 😂, I've gained significant social skills and awareness since then(but I'm still quirky 😂 I have to maintain my panache)
