If you're seeing the Northern Lights tonight, here's an explainer of how the different colors can appear! We are currently seeing a vivid display of pinks and greens here at the office!
#todayin312 we got to use our knowledge of stoichiometry to find the best NaHCO3:HC2H3O2 to push our baby bottle boats the furthest in the 1st Annual QVHS Baby Bottle Regatta! Congrats to the Crusable Crusaders & the Stoichiometry Stars!! #iteachchem@QVHSPrincipal@quakervalley

The 2023 #NobelPrize in Chemistry rewards the discovery and development of quantum dots, nanoparticles so tiny that their size determines their properties.
These particles have unique properties and now spread their light from television screens and LED lamps. They catalyse chemical reactions and their clear light can illuminate tumour tissue for a surgeon.
Researchers have primarily utilised quantum dots to create coloured light. They believe that in the future quantum dots can contribute to flexible electronics, miniscule sensors, slimmer solar cells and perhaps encrypted quantum communication.
BREAKING NEWS
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the 2023 #NobelPrize in Chemistry to Moungi G. Bawendi, Louis E. Brus and Alexei I. Ekimov “for the discovery and synthesis of quantum dots.”
First lab day of Honors Chem in Room 312 today - trying to figure out who stole the cake using our knowledge of physical and chemical changes! @QVHSPrincipal@quakervalley
All aircraft on the installation have been evacuated/secured in preparation for #HurricaneIdalia . During the evacuation, the 50th ARS recorded St. Elmo’s fire, a weather phenomenon in which luminous plasma is created in an atmospheric electric field.
Does anyone start off teaching moles as their first unit? I was thinking of rearranging by doing Moles, followed by Gas Laws, and then going into the “traditional” sequence of properties/changes of matter, etc. Any feedback that may exist would be appreciated! #chemed#iteachchem
