How does the mafia work? They make you pay protection money. Then they ensure no one fucks around with you. What is the government? Basically the same thing. You're forced to pay taxes. In exchange, the government promises to protect you through the police, military, intelligence etc.

I was just listening to a podcast where they suggested—and I haven't fact checked this—that the French authorities have told the French public that ahead of expected riots this weekend, the people are responsible for their own protection. If that's true, the ramifications are damning.

"You pay us taxes. We protect you." Is now, "You pay us taxes. Fuck you, you're on your own."

But wait, it gets worse: "You pay us taxes, and not only do we not protect you, but we've created a system of rules (laws) which are heavily stacked against you. Firstly, you're going to be outnumbered. Significantly. Secondly, we're a civilised people, so you're not allowed to own a gun i.e., you can't defend yourself. Finally, if you do manage to somehow defend yourself—using a garden shovel to beat back a dozen hooded terrorists attacking your business or your family, according to those rules, you're the baddy and we'll arrest you and put you in prison and ruin your life."

What you have here is the potential for a fundamental break of the social contract between the government, and it's people. The first duty of a government is to protect its citizens. If it no longer promises to do that ... what is the purpose of the government and why are you paying for it?

Every single sentence in your post is untrue.
Labour’s 2002 ‘deal’ had very little long-term impact on migrants trying to sneak into the UK by lorry/container/vehicles. It simply moved from Sangette to other routes.
Between 2014-2019 55,000 came in that way — an underestimate since many came in undetected and disappeared into society. Unlike boat people, nearly all of whom are counted.
So it’s an obvious nonsense to say people weren’t being sent back because nobody was arriving. Tens of thousands were arriving.
They switched to small boats when major advances in technology, perimeter defence of lorry/container parks and detection made lorries etc too risky to take.
That’s why, from 2018 onwards, the small boat numbers grew fast.
Nothing to do with EU, Brexit, Dublin rules, fairy dust etc. Why do you peddle such falsehoods?

Chris Rock just nailed one of the biggest problems with wokeness.

Helping people who feel marginalized is good. He says so himself. The trouble starts when a good cause becomes an institution.

The first few witches were real. Then you open a witch office. Now there are salaries, budgets and pensions to justify, and the office needs a steady supply of witches to keep existing.

That’s the trap. Once a cause becomes a career, solving the problem means losing your job. So the problem never gets solved. It just keeps getting redefined.

A system built to find wrongdoing will keep finding it, whether it’s there or not.

The legal age in Scotland & Ireland is 16yrs with parental consent.
