What would the Harry Potter series be like if it was written when every kid in school had a smart phone and “muggles” could live stream the weird stuff that happens… random thought of the day.
Red Flag: district advertising their pay with a misleading graph. An $8k difference for starting teacher vs 20 years experience. Parents, it won’t be long before schools are filled with inexperienced and unqualified people. Vote accordingly! *district names removed
I’m very proud of my former student. Cade - I’ll admit I was wrong, you don’t need math.
**Or maybe it was the math problems I wrote about him kicking field goals that led to his success. The world may never know. Haha!
I’m all in favor of $33B going to help Ukraine. I’m also in favor of $33B going to education, which would give every teacher in the country a $9,400 raise.
If the state doesn’t pay teachers now it will have to pay them more in the future when they are employed by Ed tech and curriculum companies to make quality materials for all the unqualified and inexperienced people needed to fill classrooms. Was this too wordy? #futurePrediction
I’m seeing pay raises for teachers across the nation anywhere from 2-5%. With inflation at 8.5% that isn’t really a raise for an already underpaid profession. For those that are staying it’s something, but IMO it’s not enough to keep people from leaving. Do better Texas.
Labor shortage:
Other companies: we need to raise wages and improve conditions to keep and recruit employees.
Texas education: let’s make a committee that meets once a month to figure this out. In the meantime we can lower standards and spend more on ads.
@BetoORourke It would cost the government about $727 a year per kid enrolled in Texas public schools to give every teacher and support staff a $10,000 raise. Make it happen!
I did some more math… according to the bureau of labor and statistics the average hourly salary has increased 63% in the same time period of my previous tweet. So about 20% more than inflation. There are many factors here but that difference is staggering.
People kept telling teachers to quit complaining and change jobs if they don’t like the conditions, salary, etc. and now so many teachers are doing just that. What happens to public education over the next 5 years will change the future of our country. We must get it right.
