Look at 23-year-old judoka Asmita Dey, who is now the first Indian to win Commonwealth Games gold in the women’s 48kg category.

7 months ago, she lost her father to a brain stroke. A bicycle mechanic who earned barely ₹300 a day, he raised his family in a mud house in a small village in Tripura. When a knee injury threatened Asmita’s career, he found the money to take her to Delhi for treatment.

Even as the family mourned, Asmita’s mother urged her daughter to return to training, believing that abandoning the dream would betray everything her father had sacrificed for.

She now stands on top of the Commonwealth Games podium with a gold medal around her neck.

#IGR: This International Tiger Day, India has one of conservation’s biggest comeback stories to tell.

In 2006, the country had an estimated 1,411 tigers. By 2022, that number had climbed to 3,682, more than doubling in just 16 years. Today, India is home to over 75% of the world’s wild tigers.

The turnaround came through decades of conservation: banning tiger hunting, launching Project Tiger, expanding protected habitats, strengthening anti-poaching efforts and using thousands of camera traps to track individual tigers by their unique stripe patterns.

But success has created a new challenge. Some reserves are approaching ecological saturation, while growing tiger populations increasingly need corridors and forests beyond protected areas.

On International Tiger Day, India’s tiger story is no longer simply about saving the species.

It’s about finding enough space for the tigers it successfully brought back.

Senior citizens who’ve walked Lalbagh for decades aren’t requesting - they’re demanding: withdraw the Tunnel Road project.

Don’t dismiss it as “just 1.92 hectares.” That’s nearly 5 acres of Lalbagh and a 3-billion year old geological heritage.

Bengaluru won’t sacrifice its heritage for a project that won’t solve traffic.

If short flyovers don’t work, how exactly will a short tunnel work?

Bengaluru Development Minister Shri @krishnabgowda himself admitted that short flyovers only move congestion from one junction to another as seen at Silk Board to Ragigudda.

So why is the State Government spending ₹1,139 crore of public money on a 2.2 Km tunnel at Hebbal that will funnel six lanes of traffic into the already congested Mekhri Circle.

This isn't infrastructure planning. But a perfect example of shortsighted planning, contract distribution and headline management.

People of Bengaluru deserve better urban planning.
