THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS turns 25 today.
The film was inspired by a 1998 magazine article about New York street racing. What began as a crime thriller rooted in underground car culture eventually grew into one of the biggest franchises in movie history.
David Fincher approved this because he wanted audiences to feel unsettled before the movie even started. To promote Fight Club, Edward Norton and Brad Pitt filmed one of the most unhinged theater etiquette announcements ever made, turning a simple pre-movie reminder into a chaotic, in-character performance that perfectly captured the film’s rebellious spirit.
The PSA was part of a larger campaign by Fox 2000 and art director Kyle Cooper that aimed to sell Fight Club as an experience instead of a movie. In the clip, Edward Norton plays the anxious straight man while Brad Pitt fully embraces Tyler Durden’s chaotic persona, and it was shown in theaters before screenings in 1999. The campaign also featured fake soap commercials and a satirical merchandise catalog, all intentionally designed to make the marketing feel like underground contraband rather than traditional advertising.
The battle against Red in Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver still feels like the ultimate Pokémon ending, climbing Mt. Silver in silence just to face the protagonist of the original games. Absolute peak.
