Man sits by me on train.
MAN: Loads of psychopaths around here
ME: Really?
MAN: Loads mate
ME: How'd you know?
MAN: There's signs aren't there?
ME: I guess?
MAN: I love them
(47 minutes of awkward silence.)
Man leaves train, he has a bike. I realise he was saying 'cycle paths'.
Why arenโt we reading more across the curriculum?
Thereโs plenty of evidence that reading aloud to our pupils, raises outcomes for all, particularly those from a low starting point. Iโve done a short recording summarising the research so why arenโt we making the most of these insights, if we are serious about closing gaps?
I think there are three main reasons why we arenโt reading more across the subjects, beyond literacy in primary and English in secondary.
A thread on the unavoidable challenges of early reading instruction (and teaching the dizzying variety of pupils in reception and Y1 more generally).
