‘I-WITNESS’ DEFENDS ‘IBINASURANG PARAISO’ AFTER ‘DISCREDITING’ CLAIMS

Following online claims seeking to discredit its documentary “Ibinasurang Paraiso”, GMA's documentary program “I-Witness” on Tuesday stood by its reporting, saying its findings were backed by official government documents, extensive field reporting, and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources' (DENR) own investigations.

The program refuted claims that the dumpsite in Sitio Tibag, Subic, Zambales is on private property, that there is no foul odor in the area and that the Aeta community lives several kilometers away from the site. It said these claims contradict official records, interviews with affected residents and documentation gathered over more than a month of reporting.

"I-Witness" also stressed that the open dumpsite has been found by the DENR to be operating without the necessary permits and in violation of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, with multiple cease-and-desist orders issued against its operations.

"We stand firmly by the documentary and the facts presented in ‘Ibinasurang Paraiso,’” the program said.
