@RogersHistory As an NQT, in a tough y6 class, OFSTED had called. Cue staying up until 3am prepping. Next day, in an RE lesson, worst boy in my class, in the middle of my lessons, yells “WHY IS JESUS SMOKING A SPLIFF?!” at the top of his voice... “Don’t be so disrespectful!” I reply... 1/2

@bphillipsonMP Disgusting that labour should take any credit for this. Hard-working school staff who are doing more with less are pay, resources and support should be credited.

I am married with a young daughter, both myself and my husband work.

-We are not entitled to housing benefit, or any other benefit for that matter.

-We do not get free eye tests, free dental care or free prescriptions.

-Our daughter is not entitled to free school meals, or free breakfast clubs, or free wrap around care, no help with her uniform.

-We don’t get council tax discount, or any other discount.

-We don’t get help with our energy bills, or low cost broadband.

-We don’t get help with the cost of going to the cinema, or days out at theme parks.

-My daughter is unable to play outside unsupervised, because you have failed to secure our borders and the streets aren’t safe.

-If I work more hours, I fall into the higher tax band.

@PolitlcsUK Yet again those hard workers getting penalised. 2 days a week cost me £450 a month. 2 days doesn’t equal 30 hours. There’s nothing free about this, other than the days I work for free because my days’ wages go immediately on childcare. Another benefit to not working.

School leaders are facing relentless pressure right now.
Attendance challenges.
A growing SEND crisis.
Safeguarding cases that are more complex than ever.
Funding that never quite meets the need.
Staff recruitment and retention becoming harder each year.
Schools are increasingly being asked to hold together the social fabric of their communities.
And rightly, we are accountable. We should be.
But there is a question the system needs to start asking.
Schools have a duty of care to staff.
Employers have a duty of care to employees.
So what duty of care exists for school leaders operating within a high-stakes accountability system?
The debate following the tragic death of Ruth Perry forced the profession to confront something uncomfortable - the pressure attached to inspection outcomes can be immense.
This isn’t about avoiding accountability or lowering standards.
It’s about recognising that school leaders are human.
Right now, many heads are carrying extraordinary responsibility for issues that stretch far beyond the school gates, while still being judged through a system overseen by Ofsted that can have life-changing consequences.
A strong school system needs accountability.
But it also needs leaders who feel supported, trusted and able to sustain the role.
Because if we continue to ignore the human cost of the job, we risk losing the very people the system depends on.
And I suspect many school leaders would quietly say the same thing:
Enough is enough.

@Yorkshire_Steve @Ofstednews Really pleased your inspection was like this. We have just had our inspection this week and it was completely the opposite. My 6th inspection and by far the worst, the least supportive and least celebratory, and the most interrogative I’ve ever come across. Staff morale is shot

@_MissieBee And as a first time mum, how clueless you are about anything! I’d never heard of tongue tie which led to weeks of struggles & my little girl being diagnosed at 12w/o, after ‘establishing’ breastfeeding hence poor latch, poor supply etc. next time I’ve got IBCLC on speed dial!

Cannot explain how relaxing it is having a summer holiday where you aren’t preparing to receive a new class in September. No classroom set up, displays or tray labels to print! No planning to do. 4 weeks in school until mat leave #2!

I want a refund on half term. Spent it dealing with a particularly bad case of chicken pox for my 1yo, cancelling holidays then chasing insurance. I’ll take next week too, thanks 👍🏼
