@aewallace8Chats My values keep me grounded because my motivation is always to advocate for my team and my students. If I feel something is not right for them, I have no problem having those tough conversations. I have a harder time when I need to stand up for myself. #EDLD517Chat
@aewallace8Chats One thing that I am going to do this year to be more vulnerable is create small counseling groups of students with similar needs. This can be intimidating for me, but I know its great for kids. #EDLD517Chat
@aewallace8Chats I have had several courageous conversations with a team member instead of about a team member. It was tough for me at first, but I was really glad after I said something. #EDLD517Chat
@aewallace8Chats Vulnerability and courage for me is to stop being a people pleaser because you can't please everyone! Also, not feeling the need to justify myself with every decision. #EDLD517Chat
@aewallace8Chats I find myself giving so much away to work that I often have nothing left when I get home. I am going to commit to being home and present with my family by 4 every day! #EDLD517Chat
@aewallace8Chats Incompetence when something goes wrong is something my school could work on. We talk about things that aren't going well every year. We can name it, but haven't been able to change it. #EDLD517Chat
@MrKyleBrown4@aewallace8Chats We have this problem as well. One year it was so bad that I ate lunch with the students to avoid hearing it. It is easy to get sucked in!
@aewallace8Chats I often find myself saying, "Tell me more about that." I find people are more willing to share when they feel like you are vested in what they have to say. Open ended questions that aren't leading are important when listening to students #EDLD517EdChat
@aewallace8Chats I move towards a problem to try to solve it. I can't stand altercations. I have learned that sometimes the other person needs space to process before having a conversation. I am still a work in progress because I hate confrontation and will do anything to avoid it! #EDLD517EdChat
@aewallace8Chats An "empathy miss" for me would be when I am vulnerable enough to share a struggle and the person I am speaking to makes it about them. I have had an "empathy miss" with students when I struggle with how to respond #EDLD517EdChat
@aewallace8Chats Belonging stands out to me from that list. Working in a middle school is tough and everyone is trying to find a place to belong. Our school even has clicks among the staff members that can make someone feel left out. I'd like to see this change! #EDLD517EdChat
@aewallace8Chats Shame shows up in my building when a student gets in trouble. The problem is it doesn't change the behavior. I'd like to see more restorative practices tried! #EDLD517EdChat
I can't wait to set up my Appreciation Station in school, but in the mean time, we have a virtual appreciation station! Students can write thank you messages to teachers, classmates, principals, custodians, secretaries, etc. I will pass their messages along! #ES5#EDLD510S21
