So, I started a newsletter. It's about the Skilled Trades and its for those who sit in offices, not in the field. Read. Subscribe.

The skilled trades workforce shortage conversation is incomplete until the business side gets examined.
A lot of companies became very good at recruiting people into environments they never redesigned to retain them.
That’s not just a hiring problem. That’s an operational one.
This is the very reason that I built Sorvex 360. To look beyond the resume to identify other behaviors and traits in potential candidates. Know who will washout, who will stay and who will be a good fit before you send an offer letter.

noticing a trend of startups replacing standard resumes/interviews with week-long (or at least 3-day weekend) in-office trials. Makes sense in a world of AI-generated resumes and interview responses
Turns out the best signal for whether someone can do a job is watching them actually do the job. took us 100 years of HR to rediscover apprenticeships!!! 😂
@andrewchen I couldn’t call the the best signal. It’s an option. I built another option, since I, too believe the resume is dead.

AI is killing the resume.
Nobody wants to say it out loud.
I did — and built the replacement.
Starting today. Watch this space. 👀

Somewhere during my build, Claude quietly abandoned the Dockerized data it told me to get, started hardcoding values directly, and wiped out my validation schema without a warning.
Gotta laugh instead of cry when your co‑engineer decides the architecture is optional.
@jerome_fletcher@toddsaunders You don’t. There is a lot of gate keeping.
You just need to have people to talk to you and validate the right problem. You can’t fix them all, and some insiders only see their POV- not the big picture.
@pierreeliottlal@romanbuildsaas@ycombinator I get it. I see other companies offering same/similar product and you want to move fast to corner the market. Good move.
With all of your moving parts, and the way you are going about it- you are bound to succeed. I hope you are getting some rest too!
The resume did its job.
That is the problem.
It got them hired.
It didn’t prove they could actually do the work.
The real test starts after day one.
That is where most companies are still blind.

@TS_Secrets And, they are not tracking any metrics beyond: when did they start; did they pass a course; and when did they graduate.
Analytics are a huge part of running any business. When you use data to drive your business decisions, you have a greater chance of success.
@TrackerPayton@JasonrShuman 349K more workers is the headline.
Here’s the part we dace around:
30–50% wash out in the first year.
We can fund training, expand apprenticeships, and still lose half the cohort if we don’t fix who we’re placing before the investment is made.
Pipeline ≠ outcomes.
@lmgco@toddsaunders I’ve built a platform to help address hiring smarter, so businesses dont waste $$ on people who will washout or not stick. Only for high risk sectors.
DM me to learn more about how I’m addressing the specific bottleneck of skilled labor.
