@ukboomers I’m quite enjoying the frothing by people who don’t realise it’s a joke account.
Unfortunately there are similar posts for real, most days, from people who haven’t bothered to check passport entry requirements and then lose out on expensive holidays.
@Casserly_Rock@TracyAnnO@Ryanair@ukhomeoffice Airlines have to adhere to the border rules of the country they’re flying to. Allowing passengers to fly without correct documentation opens them up to fines.
Each country sets its own passport validity rules for visitors, as is their right. …
@TracyAnnO@Ryanair@ukhomeoffice Good grief, people are rude.
I don’t think we know the issue date to know whether it does breach the 10 yr rule. But, if the passport expires in Jun ‘27, the issue date should not be before Sep ‘16 as a max of 9 mths was added.
@Susiec64@TracyAnnO@Ryanair@ukhomeoffice Has it been confirmed it was issued in Sep 2016?
If so the passport is absolutely valid. The three months remaining validity is taken from the expiry date, June 2027, not the 10th anniversary. They are two distinct, different rules.
@euphrosene@TracyAnnO@Ryanair@ukhomeoffice We don’t know the date of issue, although as a maximum of 9 mths could be added, I’m guessing it’s still within 10 yrs of issue. In which case Ryanair were wrong to deny her boarding.
@euphrosene@TracyAnnO@Ryanair@ukhomeoffice What are you expecting to see?
You had 3 extra months added; next year if you want to visit Schengen you must enter before 3rd August in order for it to be within 10 years of issue, but as you also need to have at least three months remaining on exit, you must leave by 3rd Aug
@johnjmkelly@TracyAnnO@Ryanair@ukhomeoffice Most countries do not care about the issue date or if a passport is over 10 years.
It’s only the 30-ish Schengen countries, and Cyprus, that will only let you enter if your passport is within 10 years. You can use any additional added time for the 3 months needed on exit.
@Kazzajjb69@TracyAnnO@Ryanair@ukhomeoffice Depends where you’re going, each country sets its own rules. In this case there are 11 months still remaining until it expires.
@Bob587966092344@TracyAnnO@Ryanair@ukhomeoffice Not all countries ask for passport validity beyond exit date, but for those that do, it’s usually to provide a cushion should you be indisposed and unable to leave , eg in hospital. Then they’re not left with an ‘illegal’ stuck in their country without a valid passport.
