We do not use the term ‘balanced literacy.’ Instead we prefer RESPONSIVE TEACHING: knowing the learner, then knowing the text, then deciding what areas to teach and adjusting your instruction based on what you observe in your students. #FPLiteracy
Used Angelou’s “Caged Bird Sings” to model in 7th ELA, where majority of students are reading at a 4th grade level. Feedback from students “I like talking to my partner.” “I like how we paused a lot and then talked. It was easier to understand.” #ALLstudentscanlearnathighlevels
Feedback from a PD I led yesterday. “Thanks for your personal stories with a touch a humanity.” @brightmorningtm and her staff inspired me at #AOCC2019
“Instead of focusing on ‘hard’ conversations, focus on having ‘more’ conversation.” @brightmorningtm Instead of thinking about supporting ‘hard’ students, focus all supporting ALL students. #AOCC2019
Thank you Lizzie Salzfass for setting the norm to “bring joy to the process” as we explore teachers’ cultural competence gap. It’s an essential norm we all need to be reminded of as educators. #AOCC2019
@TheLopezEffect Thank you for challenging me to branch out at #AOCC2019. I feel like a millionaire after sitting and speaking with so many different educators today.
Are we more focused on getting things done or building a culture of curiosity? When we are curious we are receptive and open to new learnings. #AOCC2019#artofcoaching
Response to our implicit biases not only affect the student we pass unreasoned judgement on, but the students who sit around and witness it. #AOCC2019#artofcoaching
