As we conclude #BMMHW24, we're both reflecting on our journey and looking forward to creating change. This week, we've explored crucial topics from understanding disparities to addressing stigma, discussing birth trauma, focusing on child mental health, and emphasising community support.

Now, we're considering strategies for systemic change in the UK:

1. Policy Reform: Advocating for policies addressing racial disparities in maternal healthcare, including mandatory cultural competency training and race-based data collection.

2. Increased Funding: Campaigning for greater investment in mental health resources tailored to Black mothers' needs, such as community-based support programmes and specialised perinatal services.

3. Culturally Sensitive Care: Promoting culturally appropriate mental health interventions and increasing Black representation in maternal healthcare.

These strategies aim to create lasting change through targeted, anti-racist approaches.

As the image shows, becoming anti-racist involves moving from fear to learning to growth - recognising racism, educating ourselves, and actively dismantling racist structures in healthcare.

It's crucial we call racism by name and work towards dismantling systemic barriers for improved outcomes for Black mothers and children.

If we don’t say “babies, children and young people”, the babies get overlooked.

Babies under one are more likely to be killed by an adult than at any other age.

Babyhood is a critical period of mental and physical development.

Let’s remember to include babies 👍🏻
