I love starting my Wednesday mornings off with @BTWPodcastChat and all the gems they drop into my life! @jen_hawkins4 and @PhilEchols had me furiously typing into my phone this morning with this topic of crucial conversations! ❤️ #BTWPodcastChat
Episode 5 is here! Join @jen_hawkins4 as she sits down with @PhilEchols to talk about having tough conversations during our first years in education! #BTWPodcastChat
A6: Emotions and behavior need to be taught just like we teach academics. However, before teachers can TEACH SEL, we must first understand SEL for ourselves. #BTWPodcastchat
A5: Some of my friends are having a difficult time meeting expectations around muting and using the chat feature appropriately. Currently reteaching the skill in context and reviewing expectations each day. #BTWPodcastchat
Q5: It is important to remember that students do not have a "behavior problem" but a "lack of skills." What is one skill that you are seeing that you are seeing students needing support with in the virtual setting and how do you plan to teach/support that skill? #BTWPodcastChat
A4: Padlet & Google Jamboard allowed Ss to help create our norms and expectations this year. As we go along and see something isn’t working, we have a discussion as to how to fix it. #BTWPodcastchat
Q4: It is important not setting all the norms & protocols for students, but allowing them to have voice in creating these systems. How are you giving students the opportunity to use their voice when it comes to norms & expectations in the virtual setting? #BTWPodcastChat
A3: We use the Zones of Regulation curriculum so my Ss are learning to use colors to identify their emotions and then we name them from there. They’re also equipped with break cards to let me know when they need a break (option to talk after). #BTWPodcastChat
Q3: @EMercedLearning discusses the importance of giving students the space to express themselves and their emotions, as long as they are not preventing the learning of those around them. How are you giving students flexibility to express their emotions this year? #BTWPODCASTCHAT
A2: I will NEVER forget the day in 1st grade that I got my name written on the board. I was 7. I keep it positive and mimic real life (we have conversations about our behavior) in Rm 2220. #BTWPodcastChat
Q2: In this episode, we dig into our fears of "the notebook" and "desks of shame." How did the classroom management systems you experienced as a student impact the culture you have created in your classroom? #BTWPodcastChat
Q1: @jen_hawkins4 and @EMercedLearning discuss their thoughts on using having "classroom culture" vs "classroom management." What do you feel is the main difference between the two? #BTWPodcastChat#DitchTheClips
@jen_hawkins4 and @BTWPodcastChat never let me down! Today’s episode with @EMercedLearning reminded me that teaching behavior & SEL is just as important as (if not more than) teaching academics and dropped great gems about classroom culture! #lifelonglearner#BTWPodcastChat
Episode Four is here! @jen_hawkins4 sits down with @EMercedLearning (creator of #DitchTheClip) to talk about SEL supports in the classroom, classroom culture and how best practices can transfer into the virtual setting. #BTWPODCASTCHAT
I may or may not be on my couch clapping and talking to the @WCPSS School Board meeting like I’m in church. @JMartin4Schools and @HeagartyWCBOE are speaking LIFE tonight!!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
A friendly, Monday reminder that you can only control so much.
