@araghougassian@Nan_Theman When I think of the cost of daycare and what I'll get in EI for my time off work, it's crazy - no wonder a lot of people reconsider. Lots of people say we are lucky here, which is true, compared to the US - but it's still not good enough yet.
@araghougassian@Nan_Theman I'm expecting #3 and everyone is always like wow 3 kids, that's crazy, so many kids. When in our parents generation 3-4 kids was the norm. They didn't have 3 kids for purposes of work, helping out, taking care of them etc, they did it because back then you could afford it.
@araghougassian@Nan_Theman Also the ridiculous cost of daycare, especially in BC. We're not expecting people to have 10 kids anymore because thats not realistic with how the world works now, mothers returning to work, etc. But lots of people are just having 1 or 0 because they feel they have no choice.
Home Depot's singular positive mark on American society is thanks to the unknown hero on some product committee who was like "the people don't know what they want, we will show them" and then gifted us the 12 ft tall skeleton. Happy enormous skeleton season to all who celebrate.
@ploink@cgtboiler @thenicatmanafov @svlleyy@fffabs Iโve not heard of this in a long time. Remote work for a US company = max salary; doesnโt matter where to live in my experience. Never had a company adjust my salary based on location.
If you don't work in tech, it's easy to assume that people at Google are changing the world.
Most of them are actually on teams of 290 people who "own" the "Compose" button in Gmail and sit in meetings all day debating which shade of blue they should a/b test this month.
@LMindler We had covid earlier in the year, but the kids were fine, zero symptoms. I was early pregnancy and completely drained of energy and somehow it felt like the kids had extra energy ๐ด
@kbeasy59 @sweatystartup lol - doesn't always work that way. The prices stated are pretty standard for parts & labour, not via a GC. Tree removal is whack though, although a dangerous job.
kids today are like โso what did yโall do before the internet? did you just not know anything?โ and the answer is yes. you would ask your aunt Marge a question, sheโd give you the wrong answer and youโd carry that misinformation for twenty years.
@araghougassian It's also super annoying to read these "I'm in tech but didn't go to University and still make lots of money" posts. Congratulations, most of us didn't either lol
