Today, students created their own plate with the food we cooked, figured the cost, counted money & paid me, and had a great feast! Such a great way to kick off Thanksgiving break!
Volunteers can make a difference in our public schools. I know this firsthand after doing just that at schools across Kentucky.
Big or small, your efforts will make a difference. #TeamKentucky, let's support our schools and our students.
It was an honor having @LtGovColeman at Portland today especially helping out with our first graders! What a very special treat! We enjoyed her jumping right alongside of us-a true educator! @portlandjcps
@LtGovColeman@JCPSSuper@JCPSKY @JCPSAsstSuptES3 @JCPS_COO Thank you so much for visiting @portlandjcps today to work with students, thank our nutrition services for NTI service and to answer impromptu questions from our 5th graders about how power leads to oppression. Amazing!
We love our partnership with University of Louisville! Our Portland students enjoying writing with Dr. Finch, NTI style. Giving prospective teachers real world experience.

Putting our students first is our number one goal at Portland! So thankful for our amazing administrators who undergird & equip us and teachers who go the extra mile for their students even on a day off! @portlandjcps

Made contact with all of my kiddos today. Quite an emotional & humbling day for me as I got to talk to them over the phone about what theyβve done.
In education, RELATIONSHIPS with our students must be our PRIORITY for their well being & success! #teamkentucky#portlandjcps
1st grade writers in @mrsmbenge class were βfishingβ for good hooks today. Ss evaluated a hook and decided if it was a good or hook. Ss created the criteria for what makes a good hook then tried writing their own! #engagement#rigor#PortlandGrows@portlandjcps@JCPSELA
Class size matters because relationships matter. If classes are large, teachers can NOT:
- Get to know their students
- Know students individual needs
- Know students emotional needs
- Know students academic needs
- Give students the individual attention that they need
