The library for gamers 🧵
My time working at our public library has been enlightening. A library these days is more than just books. This thread is to share how gamers specifically can utilize the free resources at their local library.
(This is stateside)
It’s Christmas Day, so we’re visiting my husband’s family in another state. Dinner is done and what are we doing? Not chatting and playing games. No. That would be normal. No, he has them all spitting into tubes for DNA research 😂
(He’s hoping his step dad is his real dad)
Just had the most wholesome interaction with the next door neighbors. Cuddled their puppy and learned they took in the feral cat I’ve been psp psp psping. Then they invited me TO VISIT THE CAT ANY TIME I WANT.
This is how I get got.
Fallout peeps,
Would anyone like some prints made by the lovely @egyptianruin ? I had bought a pack awhile ago and have a few extras I’ve never found the right spot for. They are most fun for 76ers. Checking with my mutuals first. I’ll send them FREE.
Okay so 🦋 is really nice so far. The algorithm is spot on. I’m not seeing an ad every two posts. Mostly just lurking for now. Eventually I’ll remember to engage.
Rainy Day Coffee from Bottoms Up Coop in Columbus Ohio 📍
The cotton candy melts from the steam and drips into your coffee. The coffee shop’s mission is to reduce infant mortality in the community. Sweet.
@HowieVP@PokeyPumpkin Someone down the thread suggested x/twitter lists. Which makes so much more sense to me. I do agree with multiple outlets for information.
Hot tip:
If you go to an account, you can see who of your followers are following that account. Nice way to remove folks quickly 😉 Pick a big influencer account or you know… a felon 🤷🏻♀️
@EpicestGamer @PlaysVitriol I think the twitter list is a really good idea. Hadn’t thought of that. Use it to check in on certain accounts without appearing to being a follower. Sounds like a more efficient way to keep different sources together as well.
There are a lot of ways to stay informed rather than to purposely follow unreliable and blatantly incorrect sources. That would be like wanting to follow Brock to keep in the loop on women’s issues. Nope. No way would I ever want to keep a racist/bigot/sexist/classist/transphobic (take your pick) close to me on purpose. Hard pass.
I cut my parents off.
Several weeks ago they told me if my abuser had gotten me pregnant as a child that they’d have made me carry it and I’d “learn a lesson.” I stopped initiating communication.
Then they began posting political vitriol online where only family is connected to them. My brother is an out gay man. I work at a library (the library is for every body). My sister is a social worker in a school system. Her & I were SA’d as kids.
But they wanted to save some money on gas.
They tried to meet for dinner the day after the election. I told them I was only putting myself in healthy situations and that right now I knew it would not be healthy for me to be with them. They told me I was being “divisive” and “listening to satan.” That just confirmed my need for boundaries.
Today out of nowhere my dad messages and said “just fyi, we aren’t mad at you.” For what?!? I asked why they’d be mad at me. he said “for you cutting us off. I’m not trying to have an argument.” Just continuing to be dismissive. Letting me know I’m not hurting them. Which I’m not going for at all. I’m protecting me. My mom literally screamed at me in the car because I said no one other than me and my doctor should decide what happens to my body. She actually said “they can have a d&c but not an abortion.”
I’m tired. And it’s only just begun.
PSA for the bookish:
Those fancy sprayed edges and collectors edition books you see being sold by big corporations and chains can also be preordered at your local friendly book store. A lot of them even ship! I just learned this and moved all my preorders over.
@80sENCLAVE@HowieVP At this point unfortunately, it’s almost willful ignorance to continue to follow/support these unreliable… characters. I’m still learning myself, but yeah no
