NEW: 11-year-old boy stabbed to death in Chicago while trying to protect his pregnant mom from her ex-boyfriend who had just been released from jail.

Horrific.

Crosetti Brand, 37, was charged with first-degree murder for the death of Jayden Perkins.

Brand was released on parole after being sentenced to 16 years for a home invasion.

He was "paroled and placed on electronic monitoring last October," but then sent back after he threatened Smith and showed up at her home.

"While he was on parole, he threatened the female victim via text and also showed up at her home. He was sent back to prison in February for this parole violation," said Chief of Detectives Antoinette Ursitti.

After being released again, Brand showed up at Smith's home *the next day* which led to the murder of Jayden Perkins.

Brand was abusive towards Smith all the way back to September 2006 when she broke up with him. He threatened her with a gun and fired it in the hallway.

Jayden Perkins was stabbed in the chest while protecting his mother. His mother Laterria Smith who is 33-weeks pregnant, is in critical condition.

Rest in peace, Jayden. You are a hero.
