Good morning 🌞 Sitting here reflecting on the hype of America celebrating 250 years on this July 4th. Forgive me, but, I’m not going back 250 years celebrating injustices. I’ll go back as far as the below. It’s hot outside, feels like temp 110° in SoFL, stay hydrated, stay safe.
🇺🇸 161 years ago all slaves in the United States were effectively freed. Emancipation Proclamation 1865 and Juneteenth
🇺🇸 72 years ago Black Americans were able to attend white public schools (gradually between 1954 and 1971) Brown v. Board of Education (1954)
🇺🇸 62 years ago Jim Crow laws against Black Americans were effectively banned in the United States. Civil Rights Act of 1964
🇺🇸61 years ago Black Americans legally earned the right to vote. Voting Rights Act of 1965
🇺🇸58 years ago Black Americans legally earned the federal right to purchase housing in any neighborhood. Fair Housing Act of 1968
🇺🇸17 years ago this country elected the FIRST Black American President of the United States. 2009 - 2017 the 44th
