Someone out there tonight….someone who is reading this right now, is feeling low. You’re in a dark place, and don’t believe things are ever going to get better, and that you don’t matter or have anything of value to contribute to the world.
First…acknowledge those feelings. Just give them a nod that says “I notice you.
Now…a few things.
1. It will get better. Not because I say so, but because you’ve forgotten about the other times you believed it would never get better…but did. It will, again.
2. You do matter. You matter enough….that in the middle of a task I was working on tonight, I was compelled to stop….and address YOU. That’s how important human beings are to other human beings. We are all connected in a way that, while being hard to describe, isn’t hard to feel.
3. You DO have something to contribute. See, this message that I’m sending to YOU, will likely be seen by upwards of a million people over the next week or so. Some of those people will read it. Some of those people won’t end their life because of it. Some of those will go on to help other people, and help spare their lives.
The very fact that YOU exist, and prompted me to write this message, has almost assuredly saved the lives of several other people. You’re better at this than you might have ever imagined, and you didn’t even have to try. It only required you to be…here…now.
If you’ve read this far….there’s enough spark left in you to stay around….to ride this out, and to take those steps that lead back to a life that has moments of enjoyment..that eventually finds those moments getting longer, and becoming more frequent.
I’m glad you’re here. I’d be glad to find you still here….later…as I look forward to hearing from you….and what you’ve got going on, now…as we talk about it….later.

Could two followers please copy and re-post this tweet? I'm trying to demonstrate that someone is always there, especially at this time of year. Call 800-273-8255 (National Suicide Prevention Helpline US). Just two. Any two. Copy, not retweet. Let’s all look out for each other.

I lost my father more than 25 years ago. This photo brings tears to my eyes. I’d give anything to have my dad with me like this right now, with this kind of support and compassion. Hug your kids. Life is short. Your support means the world to them. ❤️
According to @Forbes, Coach @DeionSanders’ appointment at @JacksonStateU is bigger than football. It is an opportunity for the next generation & for student-athletes across all historically Black colleges & universities (@HBCUtoday). https://t.co/TRh43b5peB
