The beauty of using circle planning to aid story invention with our youngest children as well during Innovation & Independent Application with our oldest children. This is why @Talk4Writing works! @PieCorbett@JamieThomasTFW
This paper by @dylanwiliam talks about “the secret” of feedback.
What is the secret?
Simple. That the students actually use it!

Addressing disadvantage. Adopt a nuanced, pupil / learning led approach rather than a blunt, label led approach. Nuance is key. @HuntResearchSch a model of good practice with this.
Books or screens? “leisure digital reading does not seem to pay off in terms of reading comprehension, at least, as much as traditional print reading does.”
A Thread on Handwriting…
Over the past 2 years, I have paid more attention to the way handwriting is taught than at any other point in my career. Handwriting seemed a fairly simple thing that pupils would just pick up with a few lessons on letter formation. I was wrong! Here are some things I think about now that I didn’t always consider before…
'Nothing should prevent ppl from engaging with educational research, you shouldn't have to be on SLT or have a certain number of years experience... in every area of life there can be hierarchical snobbery, there shouldn't be a barrier here' https://t.co/rY7eAgH5Hy
So proud of the team behind @TheTeachersColl led by @MrsSTeaches
Some amazing book links, plans, knowledge organisers underpinned by the 'Faster Reading' research from @SussexUni
And 500 followers to boot!
A fantastic article. I agree with every single word.
'Many children have internalised the mistaken idea that good mental health means feeling good all the time. But discomfort is not a problem to be solved, it is a necessary part of life we must all learn to willingly endure.'

“If you want kids to learn to read complex texts, you are going to have to let them try to read complex texts -- even if that means they don't get everything the first time through or that the lesson is a bit bumpier than usual.”
A profound point about teaching demanding reading
Tremendous to watch teaching across @PennWoodSchool and see upfront teaching without a PowerPoint in sight. Tremendous work in year six with every child using their magpie books to make notes and gather ideas. A genuine community of writers.
To find out why my first priority as a new Head was to restore a library at the heart of our school- and why libraries are more important now than ever before - have a read of my latest blog post:
