BUNTING MANIPULATES PITCHER APPROACH AND SETS THE TABLE FOR FUTURE MOMENTS

With 2 outs and no body on in the 3rd inning, losing 4-0, @Brewers Manager Pat Murphy told #9 hitter David Hamilton to lay down a bunt in a seemingly unimportant at bat.

Why?

Because Murphy knew Hamilton was known for bunting and they could set the table for a future at bat and big moment later in the game where he’d get a pitch to hit.

And that’s exactly what happened.

Hamilton bunted.
Hamilton got out.

But in the 5th, in Hamilton’s next at bat, he got a pitch in the heart of the plate and singled scoring a run and bringing the Brewers within 1.
And in the 9th, Hamilton did it again, homering on a get me over slider and extending the Brewers lead to 6-4.

You bunt to create future moments, and the Brewers did just that.

@Doc0915 Kinda just made my point for me. RBIs are exclusively situational and not really a picture of how good one single player is. Anybody hitting behind Schwarber and Harper (two of the best on-base guys in the league) will have a solid RBI total. Doesn't mean he's a valuable hitter.

[Matt Rudisill @mrudy26]

Literally anyone who knows modern ball understands that RBI is a completely circumstantial stat and it's very concerning the architect of the Phillies has referenced Bohm's "RBI prowess" multiple times when describing how good of a player he is.

[97.5 The Fanatic @975TheFanatic]

Dombrowski would not say if they plan to bring Bohm back or not, but did say they would miss his RBIs if Bohm leaves.

"If he is not back with us, those 90 runs he drives in every year will be missed."

If we ever get Chase Utley managing the Phillies, all hope will be restored

[Matt Gelb @MattGelb]

From @jaysonst: The Phillies requested to interview to Chase Utley and Raul Ibañez for manager job. They said thanks but no thanks. More here: https://t.co/buZuk1WFcN

Brewers team of destiny

[Matt Rudisill @mrudy26]

Chances this actually happens are frighteningly high

[Mike Mulhern @MikeyMuls]

The good news is they’ll probably have a very different looking lineup. Something like
1. Turner
2. Schwarber
3. Harper
4. Bohm
5. Stott
6. Hill
7. Marsh
8. Realmuto
9. Crawford

If the Phillies could have thrown Wheeler, Luzardo, or Sanchez on 3 days' rest in the 7th or 8th instead of Alvarado, Kerkering, or basically anyone other than Duran, they would have won 100 games and clinched a playoff spot two weeks ago
