I am a very reflective individual who thinks deeply about what I say. To Kieran (a good friend of mine), I was merely throwing a counter argument that may have had some validity. MAY.

@adriantrimble @kieranmoolchan @modacitylife I will concede that your thought that the improved state of health from cycling will, in itself, cover the increased health costs of helmet-less riders. I love the idea of positive life choices being a plus to society rather than a financial burden.

@adriantrimble @kieranmoolchan @modacitylife All of the examples you listed all pay a premium and/or tax that is aimed to offset the costs incurred by the public. Cigarettes are heavily taxed to pay for inevitable health complications. Drivers pay insurance premiums that cover their medical bills.

What about children (anyone under the age of majority)? Should they be required to wear a helmet or are they provided the same freedom of choice as an adult?

Our government has way too much influence on our lives. They need to back off.

But sometimes they need to protect us. This might be one of those times.

@adriantrimble @kieranmoolchan @modacitylife Drivers wear seat belts and have airbags to keep them safe in the event of an accident. Both of which were met with negative public opinion at their outset but now are thought of as vital.
I would argue that nothing is inherently safe but every action has some risk.
